We've felt every second
Time flies when you're having fun.
Conversely, things seem to drag out at excruciatingly slow speeds when you're not having such a good time.
15 years ago today the Supreme Court handed down a disastrous decision in Citizens United v. Federal Elections Commission, removing limitations on the amount of money corporations and special interest groups can spend on elections.
I think I speak for everyone when I say that we have felt every single second of those 15 years. Our voices have been drowned out by corporations and our needs have been shouted down by billionaires who have the ear of our lawmakers.
I've said it before and I'll say it until I'm red in the face: corporations are not people, they are not entitled to the same rights and privileges that people are entitled to, and they most certainly do not deserve an outsized say in our elections.
That's why I pledged not to take a dime from corporate PACs years ago, and I haven't looked back. You have my word that as long as I'm in Congress, it'll be the people's voice which rings loudest in my office.
Together in this fight,
Jim
