The circus is back in town.

The Republican Majority circus is back in town!

In this first week of the 119th Congress, the new Republican majority has already treated us to one of their signature internal (but very public) power struggles in the process of electing a new Speaker of the House.

Mike Johnson won again by the skin of his teeth. But he is already under pressure to please the MAGA extremists in his conference with unworkable, unpopular, and very possibly unpassable legislation.

I hope you rested up and enjoyed some quality time with your loved ones over the holidays, because if last year’s eleventh-hour scramble to avert a government shutdown showed us anything, it’s that we’ve got a long year ahead of us.

Make no mistake, their narrow margins in Congress have not caused them to reconsider their radical agenda. Instead, they’ve gone full speed ahead: proposing massive cuts to Medicare and Social Security among a laundry list of reckless and bad ideas. New year, but the same desire to make billionaires richer at the expense of everyday Americans.

Admittedly, my plans haven’t changed much either. I’m going into this new Congress with the goal of trying to make everyday Americans lives easier and stopping as much of the MAGA agenda as possible.

Together in this fight,

Jim
