Worshipping at the MAGA altar

Fascism doesn't usually walk in through the front door and announce itself, it slowly creeps in. Through a process called democratic backsliding, bad actors and aspiring authoritarians slowly chip away at the norms and procedures necessary to protect a democratic society.

We've seen what this looks like firsthand. Over the last few years (and increasingly in the months leading up to this election) we've seen various right-wing figures attempting to sow distrust in our elections and our very system of government by spreading lies and disinformation.

Hell, we saw the President encourage a mob to violently prevent the certification of election results because he lost!

But that's not the only part of this process.

You may have seen the latest madness from our very own wannabe dictator: Donald Trump. During a recent interview, he proposed using the military and national guard against what he deems "the enemy from within." And who, exactly, is this enemy that he says is worse than our foreign adversaries?

Our fellow Americans.

You see, the other aspect of fascism is the creation of a scapegoat; a group of people who are supposedly at the root of all this country's problems. According to Trump, that group of people consists of immigrants, the LGBTQIA+ community, and quite honestly anyone who doesn't worship at the MAGA altar.

Let's be absolutely crystal clear about this: Trump wants to use the military and National Guard to go after American citizens. There's only one word we can use to describe that: Fascism.

When we head to the polls in just a few days, the choice that will be in front of us is between democracy and despotism. Let's make the right choice in November.

Yours in the fight,

Jim
