Since the balloons dropped

It goes without saying that the Democratic National Convention was exhilarating.

A historic candidate. Countless inspiring speakers. And maybe most importantly: an energy and enthusiasm that has endured since the balloons dropped on that stage.

The objectives of the Harris-Walz Administration as outlined at the DNC are bold — but absolutely essential.

• Defend Reproductive Freedom: Harris pledged to restore and protect reproductive rights, countering Trump's extreme agenda to limit access to birth control, ban medication abortion, and enforce a nationwide abortion ban.

• Strengthen the Middle Class: Harris emphasizes building a strong and growing middle class through job creation, economic growth, and lowering costs for everyday needs like health care, housing, and groceries. Meanwhile, Trump's big plan is to enact a "Trump tax" that would increase costs for middle-class families.

• Pass Comprehensive Border Security and Immigration Reform: Harris commits to signing a bipartisan border security bill and reforming the immigration system, creating an earned pathway to citizenship. Trump's border wall...well, we know how that went. He prefers exploiting the issue for political gain.

• Protect Social Security, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act: Harris will safeguard these essential programs. The GOP has dedicated years to cutting them and his plans would undermine them further.

• Advance Voting Rights: Harris vows to pass the landmark John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the Freedom to Vote Act. Trump is touting his disregard for free and fair elections, holding a rally for the "patriots" involved in the January 6th insurrection.

Combat Gun Violence: Harris commits to enacting policies that ensure safety from gun violence in schools, communities, and places of worship. Trump is in the pocket of the NRA and offers only "thoughts and prayers" when prompted.

• Strengthen Global Alliances and National Security: Harris has real experience in defending against threats and mobilizing international coalitions, promising to continue supporting NATO and standing against autocrats like Vladimir Putin. Meanwhile, Trump is a national security threat all on his own through his coziness with dictators and his willingness to abandon key alliances.

• Address Climate Change: Harris emphasizes the need for clean air, clean water, and action against the climate crisis. And Trump is mad we aren't talking about fracking!?

The DNC created an enthusiastic energy around these thoughtful, earnest, and common-sense policies — and it's now our job to maintain that momentum. Will you make a contribution today and help Team McGovern get out the vote this November?

This year's convention has made one thing above all else evident: V.P. Harris and the Democratic party are looking toward the future. All while Republicans are focused on fear-mongering and dragging our country backward. And we are never going back.
