⏪ Okay, we need a recap:

Looking back at the last few weeks, I cannot believe this is how July unfolded — and it isn't even over yet.

Somehow, it's only been a week since President Biden announced he was suspending his re-election campaign and endorsing his running mate Vice President Kamala Harris. He put our country ahead of himself — something Donald Trump has never done and is incapable of doing.

It's only been two weeks since 34-time-convicted-felon Donald Trump laid out his grand plan for a second term and announced an absolute disaster of a running mate, J.D. Vance. They want to:

  • Indict political enemies, and go after so-called "fake news" outlets (networks and publishers who have criticized him) like MSNBC and CNN — effectively ending the First Amendment.
  • Capture, and deport undocumented immigrants; militarize the border; and invade Mexico.
  • Implement inhumane policies like bringing back firing squads and hanging; sending the National Guard to round up unhoused people in cities; and a nationwide abortion ban.
  • Mismanage international relations by jeopardizing NATO, handing big wins to Putin, and taxing imported goods, driving up costs for Americans.
  • Reinvest in fossil fuels, roll back dozens of Biden-era climate measures, further endangering frontline communities.
  • Defund public schools that have required vaccines for decades to keep kids healthy and safe; pull funding from schools that embrace diverse gender identities and stories.

It's tired. It's ineffective. It's hateful.

Just three weeks ago, MAGA Republicans moved to silence me on the House floor (again) for calling out the GOP's hypocrisy. I pointed out how one of their resolutions could undermine the House's constitutional authority moving forward. I guess I hurt their feelings because I said their resolution was stupid. But to be frank, this is scary, scary stuff. The so-called "Freedom Caucus" wants to silence people from speaking the truth when it doesn't fit their narrative.

But, between hateful opportunists like J.D. Vance, Project 2025, and the refusals of the GOP to hold Trump accountable, we know the stakes and we must rise to the occasion.

One thing we have to do right now is fortify our movement.

In solidarity,

Jim
