Golf, fishing, and ignoring subpoenas.
I was shaken up by what happened on the House floor this week. Let me give you a play-by-play.
It started when Republicans in the far-right freedom caucus brought up a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for allegedly ignoring a subpoena (spoiler alert: he didn't).
I was asked to manage the response on behalf of House Democrats.
Here's the deal. GOP Reps. Jim Jordan, Scott Perry, and Andy Biggs all blew off Congressional subpoenas from the bipartisan committees investigating their role in the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol.
In contrast, President Biden's Attorney General actually complied with their political-stunt-of-a-subpoena.
So I called out the GOP's hypocrisy. I pointed out how this resolution could undermine the House's constitutional authority moving forward. I told the truth about their resolution.
And then, something happened that I didn't expect. Honestly, it startled me.
MAGA Republicans moved to silence me on the House floor. Again.
I guess I hurt their feelings because I said their resolution was stupid.
This is scary, scary stuff. The so-called "Freedom Caucus" wants to silence people from speaking the truth when it doesn't fit their narrative. That is wrong!
Can you help me fight back against their attempts to silence me with a donation of $3 today?
They worship a convicted felon who praises Putin and says he wants to be a dictator.
And now they think they can turn Congress into the Kremlin by silencing those they disagree with.
I am deeply concerned. I've spent my life in public service, and I love this country too much to run and hide from a group of people who want to trample on our rights. Show that you aren't afraid to speak the truth by chipping in $3 today!
They're doing this because they're afraid of the truth. But eventually, they'll have to face the music. They can try to shut me up on the House floor, but I promise you–I will not be silent.
Yours in the fight,
Jim
