A difference for millions
From the second that President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law back in 2009, the Republican party has made it their mission to destroy it, sending millions of Americans back to a time without reliable access to health care or where they could be denied coverage for a pre-existing condition.
Fifteen years, and over two thousand legal challenges later, the ACA remains, and continues to make a difference for millions of Americans. This year (and the year before, and the year before that) record numbers of people enrolled in healthcare plans through the ACA marketplace.
This year's total (an 80% increase from 2021) is the direct result of the work done by congressional Democrats and President Biden to protect and expand the subsidies provided to consumers, after years of sabotage by the Trump administration.
I know that these days it's easy to feel like we're weathering an unending storm of attacks against our democracy, truth, and even our basic freedoms. What helps me keep the faith, is to remember the hard fought progress that we've made together.
The ACA lives on — in no small part — because of your advocacy and support, and millions in our country are better off for it. I can think of no better testament to the power of our movement than that.
Always in your corner,
Jim
