Stand with me against bigotry
So far this year, more than 400 bills have been introduced around the country to strip rights away from LGBTQ+ people and to dismantle queer lifestyles.
Reasonable people can disagree about a lot of things, but LGBTQ+ rights – that is, human rights – aren't a matter of debate. But the extremist Republicans are targeting them all the same. At worst, that's because they're hateful bigots. And at worst, it's because they're cynically preying on people's fear in order to gain power.
No, that's not a typo. Those scenarios are both truly abhorrent.
Last year we passed the Respect for Marriage Act and protected marriage equality from extremists in the Supreme Court. But we can't stop there, because across the nation LGBTQ+ students are being used as political punching bags, vilified on Fox News, bullied in our schools, and harassed on the street.
And though the radical right tries to justify the poison they spew, we will never lose sight of the fact that it's hatred, pure and simple.
We know what's right, and that's why we are standing up for all students, their parents, and anyone else who these bills target.
Let's come together, fight the good fight, and put an end to this bigotry.
