The unthinkable happened

The right to an abortion used to be protected in this country. Fifty-one years ago, today, the Supreme Court handed down its ruling in Roe v. Wade and established protections for the right to abortion and reproductive rights under the constitution.

The Republican party spent every second of the ensuing decades trying to undo the protection of this fundamental right to have control over your own body and medical decisions. Two years ago, they finally had their way. A court majority packed with right-wing extremists (and confirmed using cheap political tricks) issued a shock to our country and its legal system with their ruling in Dobbs.

Now, we're faced with the aftermath of that decision, and it's every bit as bad as we thought it would be. Patients have been denied emergency care, prosecuted for miscarriages, and in some cases forced to flee to other states to seek abortion care. Doctors even face prison sentences for providing abortions and other medical care!

This is the reality congressional Republicans have created for millions of Americans.

But, there is a way out: Congress can codify the protections, formerly afforded by Roe, for abortion and reproductive care into federal law and restore the right to bodily autonomy. That's why it's so important that we take back control of the House and protect our Senate majority. Will you pitch in today to elect pro-choice leaders who will fight for our rights?

In times like these, it's easy to get disillusioned. But knowing that our movement is made up of people like you is what gives me hope.

Better days are ahead,

Jim
