College should not be a debt sentence

I am outraged by the Supreme Court's decision to deny student loan relief.

Once again, this corrupted Supreme Court has shamelessly abandoned working families, choosing to cater to the interests of the obscenely wealthy. It is an utter disgrace.

For decades, we've lauded education as a pathway to prosperity — as it should be. But year after year it becomes more challenging for students to continue their education or pay it off. In America, the exorbitant costs of education and predatory lenders have created a system that disproportionately burdens lower-income students, perpetuating a cycle of inequality.

This is a step backward for America and the millions of hardworking individuals burdened by student loan debt. But, President Biden's initiative was just one avenue to provide relief, we can still do more. I will support legislation that will:

• Provide immediate relief for existing debt through loan forgiveness, refinancing options, and the reduction of interest rates;
• Increase funding for public schools to ensure affordable tuition, and expanding financial aid programs; and
• Regulate loan servicers and lenders to end exploitative practices and protect borrowers.
